Rohit Sharma was happy with how the Indian batters performed in the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four clash against Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

After being put in to bat first, India racked up a huge score of 357 for the loss of two wickets against Babar Azam’s men. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli scored twin hundreds and also stitched together the highest Asia Cup partnership of 233 runs.

Rohit had words of praise for Jasprit Bumrah, who made the ball talk under the lights. Bumrah got the crucial wicket of opening batter Imam-ul-Haq and finished with figures of 5-1-18-1.

“It was a fantastic batting performance, right from yesterday. When we started, we knew the wicket was good. With interruptions you have to adjust, but with two experienced batters in the middle, we knew they’d get their eye in and then terrific effort from both,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Bumrah looked good. We all saw that. He swung the ball both ways. Really worked hard for the past 8-15 months. I know how hard it is who goes through that kind of injury. Bumrah is only 27. For him to come back… the way he bowled, he’s shown what Bumrah is all about. Good to see him in that rhythm,” he stated.

Rohit was also happy to see Rahul bat with a lot of maturity after returning from an injury layoff. Rahul came to bat after Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Shubman Gill. Thereafter, he went on to stay unbeaten on 111 runs off 106 balls with the help of 12 fours and two sixes.

“Looking at how we batted, there was lot of positives. And then Virat and KL obviously. We know it was a typical Kohli innings, brilliantly paced. I am very happy for KL… last minute change. Not easy coming from injury. It was five minutes before the toss we had to tell him to play… not easy to come out in those circumstances,” Rohit added.

India’s next Super Four match is against Sri Lanka, captained by Dasun Shanaka, on Tuesday, September 12 in Colombo.
