Axiom-3 Mission Launch LIVE: Four European astronauts to begin journey to space

The Axiom-3 mission is set to launch four European astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) in the wee hours of Thursday.

The mission, which marks the first all-European commercial astronaut mission, will be broadcast live, offering viewers around the globe a front-row seat to the mission.

The Axiom-3 crew, led by Commander Michael Lopez-Alegr­a of the US and Spain, includes Pilot Walter Villadei of the Italian Air Force, and Mission Specialists Alper GezeravcÄñ of Turkiye and Marcus Wandt of Sweden and the European Space Agency.

Their journey to the ISS will commence aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, propelled by a Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at Nasa’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, with liftoff scheduled for 3:41â€ïam IST.

This mission aims to further the research by Axiom Space in its bid to construct its own habitation module for the ISS and eventually develop the world’s first commercial space station.

The Ax-3 crew will spend up to 14 days in orbit, engaging in microgravity research, technology demonstrations, and outreach events.

The broadcast will provide an in-depth mission overview and follow the crew’s preparations leading up to the launch. After liftoff, the coverage will continue until approximately 20 minutes post-launch, showcasing the spacecraft’s journey toward the ISS.

Docking is anticipated at approximately 3:45â€ïpm IST on January 18.
