Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday asked why fuel prices were higher in Madhya Pradesh, a BJP-ruled state, as compared to Rajasthan, as he targeted the Centre for its handling of petrol and diesel prices.

“They (BJP) compare us to Punjab. We compare ourselves with Madhya Pradesh, which is a BJP-ruled state. Why are fuel prices higher in MP as compared to Rajasthan,” Gehlot said at a press conference in Kota.

Gehlot also accused the Centre of “looting” the state government’s share in excise duty on fuel.

The Rajasthan Chief Minister also claimed that the state government’s share in excise duty on fuel has been significantly reduced by the central government.

“People should understand that the central government has been looting as far as prices of petrol and diesel are concerned. The state government also has a share in excise duty. Whereas the central government has almost finished the share of the state governments in excise duty,” Gehlot said.
