Schools across Uttarakhand have announced closure on September 11, 2023, in response to heavy downpours across the region. A formal notice regarding this decision was issued by district authorities, leading to a complete holiday for all educational institutions from classes 1 to 12.

WARNINGS ISSUED BY DISTRICT MAGISTRATES

The inception of this closure stems from the district magistrate of Champawat, who decided to enforce a complete shutdown in the wake of incessant rainfall.

The order was mirrored by the DM of Uddham Singh Nagar, leading to a comprehensive closure of schools in both districts.

According to the notice shared by the Champawat DM, based on the weather forecast issued by Dehradun on September 10 at 01:30 pm, projections of heavy rainfall, along with accompanying thunder and lightning on September 11, were made.

In light of this forecast, a warning was issued by the India Meteorological Department based in Dehradun.

The clarion call led to directives that declared one day off for all government, non-government and private schools as well as Anganwadi centres within the Champawat district.

“The details of the forecast and resultant closure order reads – “Therefore, in view of the warning issued by the India Meteorological Department, Dehradun on 11.09.2023 (Eleventh September 2023) (Monday), all the educational institutions running from class 1 to class 12 in all the government, non-government and private schools of Champawat district and Orders are passed to declare one day holiday for the students of all Anganwadi centres.”

CLOSURE EXPANDED TO UDHAM SINGH NAGAR

Following suit, District Magistrate Uday Raraj Singh announced a similar sanction on educational activities for the area of Udham Singh Nagar. The directives included a closure for Anganwadi centres as well.

Parents and students in the affected areas are hereby advised to acknowledge this closure and stay safe. In case of any confusion, they are encouraged to reach out to their respective school departments.
