Maruti Suzuki India was the largest sport utility vehicle (SUV) manufacturer in August, climbing to the numero uno position for the second straight month, ahead of Mahindra & Mahindra.
The SUV volume of Maruti stood at 41,658 units in August as against 37,223 units of Mahindra.
Even in July, Maruti was at the top of the SUV table at 42,620 units. In comparison, Mahindra sold 36,124 units.
Maruti’s SUV portfolio includes four models — Fronx, Brezza, Jimny and Grand Vitara. Mahindra sells SUVs like the Scorpio (N and Classic), Bolero (including the Neo version), XUV700, Thar, XUV300 and XUV400.
The passenger vehicle (PV) industry witnessed its best-ever domestic monthly performance at 360,897 units in August with the SUV segment enjoying a majority share of 48.6%.
The Brezza was the largest-selling SUV in August at 14,572 units. Maruti sold 12,164 units of the Fronx, 11,818 units of the Grand Vitara and 3,104 units of the Jimny during the month.
For Mahindra, the Scorpio (N and Classic) was the best-selling SUV at 9,898 units. It was followed by the Bolero (including the Neo version) at 9,092 units, the XUV700 at 6,512 units and the Thar at 5,951 units.
