NEW DELHI: The country’s leading carmakers reported their best-ever monthly sales in the local market as wholesale volumes were up by more than 13% to 3,94,571 units in January, with dealers pushing inventory after clearing stocks in year-end sales.
Prior to this, passenger vehicle sales had hit an all-time high of 391,811 units in October 2023. Top players such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai India and Tata Motors reported strong sales in the month, indicating that demand continues to remain healthy.
Maruti sold 1.6 lakh vehicles in the domestic market against 1.5 lakh units in the same month last year, senior executive officer (sales & marketing) Shashank Srivastava said. Hyundai had a 14% growth with sales of 57,115 units. Hyundai India COO Tarun Garg said that demand remains strong for the company’s SUVs such as Creta and Exter. “Going forward, we continue to be cautiously optimistic about the momentum of the auto industry in 2024.” Mahindra’s sales were up 30% at 43,068 units.
