Pranutan Bahl to make Hollywood debut in ‘Coco & Nut’ with Rahsaan Noor

Pranutan Bahl, granddaughter of late legendary Indian actor Nutan and daughter of Mohnish Bahl, is embarking on a new chapter in her career with her Hollywood debut in ‘Coco & Nut.’ She will share screen space with American actor-filmmaker Rahsaan Noor.

PRANUTAN TO MAKE HOLLYWOOD DEBUT WITH RAHSAAN NOOR

Pranutan Bahl, known for her roles in ‘Notebook’ (2019) and ‘Helmet’ (2022), will soon make her Hollywood debut with American actor-filmmaker Rahsaan Noor in ‘Coco & Nut’. The film is described as a ‘spirit-lifting romance’ and is directed by Noor, whose last venture was the critically acclaimed ‘Bengali Beauty’ in 2018.

The storyline revolves around an ambitious young woman, played by Pranutan, grappling with the challenges of saving her marriage. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she receives support from her know-it-all college sweetheart, portrayed by Noor. The film, set to be produced in both English and Hindi, is scheduled to be shot entirely in Chicago from June to July, boasting a diverse cast and crew from both the United States and India.

PRANUTAN, RAHSAAN ON ‘COCO & NUT’

“I’ve always wanted to do a romantic drama,” Pranutan expressed. ‘Coco & Nut’ is a beautiful story in which my character, Nut, journeys through a transformative phase in her life. I’m so grateful that I make my international debut with a movie like that,” she said.

“I’m really grateful to be getting another opportunity to make a film,” Rahsaan Noor said. “That too on a subject that is not only personal to me but also a subject that I’ve found so many people around the world relate to — when looking for your life partner, how do you really know if you’ve found the one?” he added.

He also said, “I grew up like so many other second generation South Asian Americans — with a love for our movies from the motherland. That’s why we’re making Coco & Nut in English and in Hindi. It’s a privilege to be working with Pranutan on this film. From the moment I saw her in ‘Notebook’, I was taken by her talent and knew that I had to work with her one day.”

ABOUT ‘COCO & NUT’

‘Coco & Nut’ stars Pranutan Bahl and American actor-filmmaker Rahsaan Noor in the lead. The film’s screenplay draws inspiration from a poignant text message Noor received from his college sweetheart, full five years after she had broken his heart. This narrative delves into the complexities of relationship dynamics experienced by Millennials and Gen Z, shedding light on the prevalent trend of delayed marriage and its profound effects on modern love. The storyline thus intricately explores the nuances of these contemporary romantic challenges.

Written by Rahsaan Noor and Raghav Murali, with additional screenplay credited to Priyamvada Singh, the film is produced by Hamilton Moving Pictures’ Chad Shields, alongside Ranjith Rajasekharan and Raghav Murali. Noor’s Ziryab Films, Henry Leong’s Macuverse, and Executive Producers Mashruk Zahid and Lasaly Changkachith are bankrolling the film. It is slated to release in 2025.
