Rohit Sharma has gone level with MS Dhoni for most wins as India skipper in T20Is after the thrilling Super over win against Afghanistan in Bengaluru on January 17.

Rohit, who had made his return to the format after a 14-month hiatus, had a poor run with the bat in the first two matches. However, he was spot on with his captaincy calls as India wrapped the series coming into the match on Wednesday.

IND vs AFG 3rd T20I Highlights

The Indian skipper etched his name in the annals of cricket history by scoring a record fifth T20 International century. This remarkable feat was achieved during the third and final match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru.

Rohit’s knock was nothing short of spectacular as he led India’s recovery from a shaky start at 22/4. His explosive innings of 121 not out off 69 balls included 11 fours and eight sixes, surpassing his previous best score in the format. Alongside Rinku Singh, who scored an impressive 69* off 39 balls, Sharma forged a monumental 190-run partnership, setting a new record for the highest stand for any wicket for India in T20Is. The duo’s onslaught in the final overs propelled India to a formidable total of 212/4.

However, there was more drama to unfold as Afghanistan would tie the game and push into a super over thanks to fifties from Gulbadin Naib, Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Rohit would come to bat and hit two sixes in the first super over as India were chasing 17 to win. However, the game was forced into another super over where the Indian skipper scored 10 runs as India posted a target of 12.

Ravi Bishnoi would seal the game for India and helped Rohit secure a historical win. This means that the opener has now tied Dhoni for most wins in T20Is as skipper with 42 to their name. It will now be interesting to see if he can break the record during the T20 World Cup 2024.
