The Congress on Wednesday named Mahesh Kumar Goud and Venkat Narsing Rao as its candidates for the bye-elections to the Telangana Legislative Council scheduled to be held on January 29.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge approved the candidatures of Goud and Rao for the Legislative Council polls.
The upcoming bypolls will be held after the Congress secured a stunning victory in the Telangana assembly polls last year, dislodging the BRS led by K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The grand old party won 64 of the 119 assembly seats while the BRS finished with 39 seats. The BJP and AIMIM, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, won eight and seven seats, respectively.
