BENGALURU: TCS is asking select teams in the company to work from office five days in a week beginning October 1, ending the flexibility of working in a hybrid model. Sources told TOI that five-day work hasn’t been implemented across the company yet.
The new directive appears to be a marked shift from its earlier stance of asking its employees to work from office at least thrice a week which staffers believe gave them room for striking a work-life balance. In October last year, TCS told employees that managers would roster them for three days a week which they must follow. The company said in the memo that disciplinary proceedings will be initiated if they do not adhere to the roster.
When TOI reached out to TCS on the five-day week norm, the company, said, “As we are in the silent period, we will not be able to comment on your query.” But in response to TOI’s question on return-to-office in the June quarter, its CEO K Krithivasan said, “We believe working from the office is good for the associates, customers and TCS. You’re talking only about work output in terms of how they deliver to customers, but how do they get mentored on culture? How do they get mentored on how they deal with customers and colleagues.”
