Taste Atlas, an experiential travel online guide, released a list of the 50 most legendary dessert places in the world. Unsurprisingly, three Kolkata eateries made it to the list.
Traditional sweets and desserts relish a special space in Kolkata’s culinary scene. So much so, roshogulla, sandesh and chom chom are some names that instantly pop up while talking about Kolkata food.
KC Das, a confectionery in Kolkata with a rich history dating back to 1866, occupied the 25th spot on the list. It is immensely popular for serving rasgullas.
Flurys, a prominent confectionery in Kolkata known for its wide variety of desserts and cutesy decor, was 26th on the list. “Among its extensive menu of pastries and desserts, Flurys is particularly famous for its rum balls, a delightful combination of chocolate sponge cake, cocoa, and rum,” Taste Atlas noted.
Balaram Mullick and Radharaman Mullick, a legendary sweet shop in Kolkata famous for its traditional Bengali sweets, especially Sandesh, was 37th on the list.
Several other Indian legendary sweet shops and confectioneries also found a mention on the list, such as Pune’s Kayani Bakery (18), Hyderabad’s Karachi Bakery (29) and Mumbai’s K Rustom and Co (49).
