Veteran actor Birbal Khosla passes away at 84

Veteran actor Satinder Kumar Khosla, popularly known as Birbal, has died on Tuesday evening at a private hospital in Mumbai. He was 84.

Khosla passed away due to cardiac arrest. His final rites will be performed on Wednesday.

Khosla’s prolific career that spanned over five decades saw more than 500 films, but it was his role as a prisoner in Sholay that made him garner a lot of attention.

Birbal was particularly celebrated for his comedic roles and distinctive appearance, characterised by a bald pate and a thick moustache.

Born in 1938, in Gurdaspur in Punjab, he made his acting debut with the film Upkar in 1967 and went on to feature in numerous films across various languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, and Marathi.

He worked in several films of Manoj Kumar including Upkar, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan and Kranti and also featured in films like Naseeb, Yaarana, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Anjaam among others.
