AR Rahman’s ‘Marakuma Nenjam’ concert took place in Chennai at Adityaram Palace. The event turned into chaos after thousands of people complained of mismanagement. Many women took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and claimed that they were molested. Shweta Mohan, who was one of the singers at the event, responded to a woman who was molested and expressed her solidarity. She further questioned if AR Rahman deserves such perpetrators to attend his concert as his fans.

AR Rahman’s concert received flak for poor crowd control. Women were molested in the crowd and many took to social media to share their ordeal.
An independent filmmaker shared a video of her hand trembling in shock hours after she got molested. Singer Shweta Mohan said that she couldn’t ignore the video and said that her heart goes out to her. She also questioned if such perpetrators disguised as Rahman’s fans should attend concerts.
Her message read, “Unable to ignore this tweet. For an icon who has stood for peace, love and humanity all his life, it is extremely unfortunate that this has happened at his concert where the music has always eased pain for all attending. Does ARR sir deserve such perpetrators as fans attending his concert? He deserves better, way better. In every concert he dedicates a song especially to women as a reminder to every man of the respect he needs to carry for every woman. But Alas! (sic).”
Shweta also added, “Stay strong, #Singapenne !! We live in a heinous society. My heart goes out to you. Sending you energy to help overcome this and rise again! “Unakkaga Neeye Udipaai Amma…! (sic).”

AR Rahman partnered with ACTC Events for his Chennai concert titled ‘Marakuma Nenjam’. The concert was supposed to happen on August 12, but was later cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. On September 10, the concert saw over 45,000 people in attendance.
Speaking about the mishap at the event, Rahman, in an interview with The Hindu, said, “Right now, we are just terribly disturbed. Safety was the primary issue, especially because there were women and kids. I don’t want to point fingers at anyone, but we have to realise that the city is expanding, and the passion to consume music and art is also expanding.”
Rahman has promised compensation for those who couldn’t attend the event despite having tickets. He also said that he’s accountable for what had happened and hinted at a surprise soon.
