India-Saudi ‘natural partners’, President Murmu hosts banquet for Crown Prince

President Droupadi Murmu said on Monday that Saudi Arabia is one of India’s most important strategic partners and also noted that bilateral ties between the two countries have strengthened considerably over the past few years.

The President’s remarks came as she hosted the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. She also hosted a banquet in his honour.

The President further said that in the modern world, India and Saudi Arabia share cultural experiences and economic synergies, and they both share a commitment towards a peaceful and sustainable world. These factors make “us natural partners,” the President said.

She added that there are ample opportunities for increasing Saudi investments in India across several different sectors.

The President also emphasised Saudi Arabia’s key role in maintaining peace and stability in the region. She expressed confidence that the Crown Prince’s participation in the G20 summit would further strengthen the “multifaceted partnership between India and Saudi Arabia.”

President also thanked Saudi Arabia for looking after a large number of Indian expatriates, and giving them “space to flourish and grow”. Through their hard work and professionalism, they have made significant contribution to the Saudi Arabia’s growth and prosperity, president noted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Ministers, and other delegates from Saudi Arabia were also present at the gathering.

Meanwhile, Mohammed bin Salman congratulated India on a successful G20 presidency.

“Well done India, a lot of announcements made that will benefit both our countries, the G20 countries and the whole world. So I want to say to India well done, and we will work to create a future for both countries,” Mohammed bin Salman said.

According to external affairs ministry, India and Saudi Arabia have signed as many as eight agreements during the Saudi Crown Prince’s India visit.

Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mohammed bin Salman also held bilateral talks.
