The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the medical bail given to former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain in a money laundering case. The interim bail has now been extended till September 25.

As soon as the bench assembled for the hearing, Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, appearing for the Enforcement Directorate, urged the bench of Justices A S Bopanna and Bela M Trivedi to adjourn the case and extend the relief.

Accepting the statement by the investigating agency, the bench extended the bail and adjourned the hearing to September 25.

The court was hearing Satyendar Jain’s plea challenging the decision of the Delhi High Court to deny him bail in April this year.

Tuesday’s medical bail extension is the third such extension given to Satyendra Jain following his spine surgery.

On May 26, the top court had granted interim bail to Satyendar Jain for six weeks in a money laundering case, but imposed various conditions, including no talking to the media and restrictions on leaving Delhi without permission.

Satyendar Jain approached the Supreme Court seeking bail in the money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate on a Central Bureau of Investigation complaint registered on the allegation that the former Delhi minister had acquired movable properties in the name of various persons from February 14, 2015, to May 31, 2017, which he could not satisfactorily account for.
