A day after Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray claimed that a “Godhra-like” incident may occur after the inauguration of the Ram Temple, Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur on Monday reminded him of the political ideology of his father Balasaheb Thackery.
Addressing a press conference in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Union Minister Anurag Singh said, “I don’t know what Balasaheb (late Shiv Sena founder and Uddhav Thackeray’s father) would have thought today and what Uddhav ji is doing today for the greed of power”.
The comments of Union Minister Anurag Thakur came as a rebuttal to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s remarks which he made while addressing a gathering in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon.
“It is a possibility that the government could invite a large number of people for the Ram Temple inauguration in buses and trucks, and on their return journey, an incident similar to that in Godhra may occur,” Thackeray had said.
Karsevaks (term for volunteers who took part in the Ram temple movement) returning from Ayodhya on board the Sabarmati Express were attacked and their train coach was burnt at Gujarat’s Godhra station on February 27, 2002, leading to several deaths that triggered widespread riots across the state.
The Ram Mandir is likely to be inaugurated in January 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls due next year.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which is overseeing the construction of Ram Mandir, also plans to extend a formal request letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his presence for the auspicious occasion.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust will send the letter with the signature of the Trust’s Chairperson, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das. The letter would request the prime minister to confirm his availability during the favorable dates between December and January.
