In just 36 hours- on September 12 at 10:00 PM IST, Apple will hold its annual event, this time dubbed the Wanderlust event. The event will finally unveil the new generation of Apple products, including the new iPhone, Watch Series, and more. And one big upgrade is said to be coming up with the upcoming Apple Watch Series 9.

For the new Apple Watch Series, the Cupertino-based tech giant is said to have focused on updated sensors to improve the ‘speed, efficiency, and accuracy’, reports Bloomberg. The new changes in the Watch 9 series will include the introduction of a new optical heart rate sensor and the integration of a new U2 ultra wideband chip.

Apple Watch Series 9 might look similar to Watch 8

In terms of design, the upcoming generation of Apple Watches is expected to closely resemble the Watch Series 8. Apple is planning to introduce two new additions to the Apple Watch lineup: the Apple Watch Series 9 in 41mm and 45mm sizes, as well as a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra in 49mm. While the upcoming models are expected to maintain the design aesthetics of their predecessors, a major Apple Watch redesign is reportedly in the works for 2024.

Apple to upgrade processor of new gen Apple Watch series

As reported by Bloomberg, Apple is planning to release new Apple Watches with new materials and colours, including more recycled metals and a black Apple Watch Ultra. However, the main focus of the new Apple Watch will be on improving performance, with a new chip that will be significantly faster than the previous one. This will be the first time that Apple will house a new chip to its Watch series since the last processor update in 2020.

Apple Watch Series 9 may get U2 ultrawide-band chip

Another rumored upgrade to the Apple Watch Series 9 is a new U2 ultrawideband chip for improved Find My capabilities. The same chip is also said to be included in the iPhone 15 lineup. This chip is expected to allow users to more accurately locate their Apple Watch and other devices.

New optical heart rate sensor in Apple Watch Series 9

In addition to new sensors and internal components, Apple is also rumoured to add a new version of its optical heart rate sensor to the Apple Watch Series 9. This upgrade is expected to offer greater precision and accuracy compared to its predecessor, and it could be used to track heart rate variability, which can be a measure of stress and recovery.

These new sensors and internal components are expected to improve the performance, efficiency, and accuracy of the Apple Watch, making it a more powerful and reliable fitness tracker and health monitor to users.

Meanwhile, Apple is also said to bring significant changes to its iPhone 15 series. These include the inclusion of a Type-C charging port, a titanium design, adding the dynamic island in the display for all variants, and more. The reports also hint at the possibility that the iPhone 15 Pro models may be approximately 10 per cent lighter than their predecessors, and they might also offer improved repairability due to an internal redesign.
