Virat Kohli ready for 3rd successive day of cricket at Asia Cup 2023: First time I have done anything like this

by The Technical Blogs

Virat Kohli scored only 54 of his 122 runs through boundaries in a match-winning knock against Pakistan in a Super Fours match of Asia Cup 2023 that spanned across 2 days. The former captain, known for his supreme fitness levels, ran hard between the wickets in a record-breaking 233-run partnership with KL Rahul on the Reserve Day which was humid in Colombo.

And when Virat Kohli pushed himself to steal those extra runs, he was constantly reminded of the fact that India have to turn up and play another ODI in less than 24 hours time.

India are all set to play ODI cricket on 3 successive days as they take on Sri Lanka in their second Super Fours match at the same venue in Colombo on Tuesday, September 12. The scenario has risen after the game against Pakistan was pushed to Reserve Day due to rain in Colombo on Sunday when only 24.1 overs were bowled.

Speaking after winning the Player of the Match award after his 94-ball 122, Virat Kohli said he is ready to come back on the field on Tuesday, adding that playing Test cricket will help him recover and return to the ground for a 3rd consecutive day.

“I was pushing for those runs and happy for it, but I was thinking I need to play at 3 pm tomorrow,” Virat Kohli said.

“It is the first time I have done anything like this in 15 years of cricket. Luckily we are Test players, so we know how to come back the next day and play. Recovery is crucial. It was humid out there today. I am 35 in November, so I need to take care of my recovery,” he added.

India posted 356 on the board, thanks to hundreds from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul after which India bundled out Pakistan for 128 in 32 overs, clinching their biggest-ever ODI win in terms of runs against their arch-rivals.

Virat Kohli also heaped praise on KL Rahul for hitting 111 not out in his first international match after a 5-month injury layoff.

Rahul hit 111 not out in 106 balls, dominating the Pakistan bowling attack on the Reserve Day. Questions were asked of his fitness when he was ruled out of the group stage of Asia Cup but Rahul proved his doubters wrong by keeping wickets during Pakistan’s chase. \

“Me and KL are both conventional cricketers, we don’t try fancy stuff but we can get a lot of purchase through good cricket shots. Great partnership and good signs for Indian cricket. Very happy for him to come back to ODI cricket in that manner,” Kohli said.

India are on top of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours table, thanks to their big win on Monday against Pakistan.
